When teachers have access to an entire computer
lab down the hall, there are powerful learning opportunities you can allow your
students to experience within this type of computing environment. Read below
for a description of the different types of classroom management scenarios and
instructional methods that you can employ.
Prior to the activity:
Check with your technology resource person to
make sure they are available the day you plan to use the computer lab - for
troubleshooting and problem solving.
- Schedule dates for your visit to the computer lab.
- Load software and plug-ins.
- Have students save all work to their own student folder.
- Introduce activities to the students.
- Review policies and procedures.
During the activity:
- Monitor students.
- Provide an easily visible timer for self-monitoring during the activity.
- Provide enrichment activities for students who finish early.
-
Some students may be assigned as a "peer
helper" for those who are newer computer users or have disabilities.
